The ME story

The ME story

How it all began

Carly was a Registered Manager at a care provider in Romford, as part of her role she looked after 200 care workers they employed. Like most other care providers in the health and social care, Carly was fed up with how long it took to complete all the necessary compliance checks when recruiting new workers.

A lengthy process

It takes on average four months after offering someone a job before they can start employment. However, it was one situation that pushed Carly to do something about the issue herself.

Losing out

She needed to provide extra care for a 30-year-old patient who had cancer, who was given just weeks to live. With all other care workers assigned to other patients, Carly looked at new workers she could employ. She found 15 qualified workers looking for employment, 7 of them had over 20 years’ experience. However, because she couldn’t validate their training and experience, check their DBS status easily or their ‘right to work’ status, she just couldn’t employ them for the job – it would take too long.

Enough is enough…

That evening Carly sat in the bath, frustrated and upset, thinking about the emotional conversation she had with the patient’s father. It just doesn’t make sense, that an entire sector is being held back by such old school administration and paperwork.

ME is born

The next day Carly managed to get help from existing care workers who offered additional capacity, so the family could get the support they needed. Not only that, she also decided she wasn’t going to let the same issue happen again. Enough was enough. My Employment Ltd, a social enterprise, was founded in 2018 by Carly and John to help resolve the recruitment issues that exist in the Health and Social Care sector. A business from the sector, for the sector.
